Blog Finder - The New Weapon added by Google Search Engine

Posted by gurur@j on Sunday, January 09, 2011 , under | comments (0)

In one of the recent activities, Google has silently launched an attractive new feature, Blog Finder, thus adding another attribute to its series of functionalities. This new feature will search for blogs across the entire web for any given topic that interests the users.

The news about the launch came up as a mere announcement in the form of a weekly search update review that was released sometime back. The new feature has great potential of being used widely for its usability. After all, nearly every surfer on the web seeks for a list of the best blogs, related to their interests.
How do you use the Blog Search feature?

For a long time, Google has been displaying a minor number of blogs, all related to the query searched by the user just above the other page results. However with this new search system, the blog search has now been parted and included as an individual service that can be availed to in the left sidebar of the search engine’s search result page.

Click Google.com and search for any interesting topic in the search tab. Once the result page is displayed, check the left sidebar for the “Blogs” links to find a list of the best blogs related to your search query. In case the “Blogs” link does not appear on the left sidebar, click on the “more” section and then enter the “blogs” section.

Is the Search Result Worthy?

Finding related search results that provide you the best information about your query is the ideal need of all webmasters and regular users. Hence, considering the list of blogs obtained in the blog search, the feature seems to have proved its usability to all web users. However, the ranking of these blogs in the search result page is a very questionable topic. The search feature offers results in a particular order. It shows results higher on the search result page if your query dominantly matches the title of the blog. This is however not a very good logic of indicating the best blogs to the users, as the content of the blog is not at all analyzed before the blogs are ranked. This, however, acts as a drawback for the new search attribute, apart from its other advantages.

Previous to the release of this blog finder attribute, Technorati blog directory was the only source for finding a list of blogs. However, with the sun setting for the directory, Google’s blog finder acts as the best option, replacing Technorati. The new search system also supports full text search along with the other general site analysis information. The blog finder provides you a new document that includes information retrieved from the XML feeds, related page links, blog posts and details form the profile pages.

Google Brings- Ads to Mobile Search

Posted by gurur@j on Tuesday, November 09, 2010 , under | comments (0)

Nine times out of 10, if you're walking down the street and you search for "coffee" on your smartphone, it's because you're in serious need of a cup of joe. You don't want a Wikipedia article or a website for coffee aficionados, you want a caffeine injection right now - and Google's on board with you.

Google introduced hyperlocal search ads for mobile devices this morning, bringing you closer to what you want, when you want it.

Surojit Chaterjee, the product manager for Google Mobile Ads, writes that the feature will help to create "more meaningful connections" by delivering "down to the block level information about your business at the right place and the right time." The results will appear as a OneBox result on mobile devices, which a blue pointer icon and a distance, as long as the smartphone user has allowed Google to use their location.

As we reported earlier today, Google CEO Eric Schmidt told the crowd at TechCrunch Disrupt this week that mobile search is the future of Google. "Eventually, we think mobile will be the majority of the searches and the majority of the revenue," he said.

Small steps like the move to this hyperlocal search feature - and getting advertisers to provide the necessary information - are the building blocks to this future.

Google Cloud Computing

Google Docs rolled out a new feature today, with the addition of a "Version history" for uploaded files. Now you can upload new versions of the same file, and the URL and sharing and folder settings will remain the same. To use this new feature, select a file, then choose the "Add or manage versions" option. From there, you can upload a new version and download or delete older versions.A useful change, but not the most exciting Google Doc news of the day.

That comes from the Google System Blog, an unofficial Google blog, that has found some indication in the Google Docs source code that some more interesting updates may be in the works. "Coming soon," reads the code, "Third party applications, cloud printers, and sync devices."

Google Cloud Print

Google's Cloud Print is a not-yet-available feature that will be associated with the Chrome OS. "Our goal," says Google,"is to build a printing experience that enables any app (web, desktop, or mobile) on any device to print to any printer anywhere in the world." Rather than relying on the local operating system and its print drivers to control the process, Google Cloud Print will handle the printing.

Even though Cloud Print isn't available yet, Google is laying the groundwork for its release. And it says that any app - web apps and native apps - should be able to use Cloud Print, via an API. Google says it wants to simplify the printing process, ending some of the problems of setting up networks for printers.

But the main question that people will have, Google admits, is, "How do the printers communicate with Google Cloud Print?" The answer is, "It depends on whether the printer is a cloud-aware printer or a legacy printer."

Cloud-aware printers will "soon be a reality," says Google. But right now, every printer in the world falls into the "legacy" category. To accomplish this, Google will use a proxy, "a small piece of software that sits on a PC where the printer is installed. The proxy takes care of registering the printer with Google Cloud Print and awaiting print jobs from the service. When a job arrives, it submits the print job to the printer using the PC operating system's native print stack and sends job status back to the printer."

Third Party Apps and Syncing
It's possible that the third party applications and sync devices that are "coming soon" will also involve the Chrome OS store, reported delayed til later this year. And syncing - we hope - will mean that we will finally be able to work offline with our Google Docs and files and have them sync when we're back online.

Be Ready for Wi-Fi Planes offered from google

Posted by gurur@j on , under | comments (0)

Air-bound travelers this holiday season will find that they don't have to worry about being disconnected from the Internet, even for a few hours. The Google Chrome browser team has joined with three airlines to offer free in-flight Wi-Fi on more than 700 planes for approximately 15 million passengers this holiday season.

This is the second year in a row that Google has offered free Wi-Fi, with the program expanding this year to three airlines - AirTran, Delta and Virgin America. According to the Free Holiday Wi-Fi website, the deal will last from Nov. 20, 2010 through Jan. 2, 2011. To connect, simply search for the Gogo Inflight network and connect your device.

If you're asking yourself "Why?", just take a look at last year's program. According to The Next Web, users of the free Wi-Fi were sent to a landing page promoting the Nexus One, just before its launch. This year, we imagine, those 15 million potential customers will see a splash page promoting Google's ever-growing entry into the browser market, Google Chrome. We have to wonder how much of a push a campaign like this could give to the number three browser.

As Google notes in its press release, if flying used to be your excuse to disconnect, it will be no more:

Not too long ago, flying home for the holidays meant disconnecting for several hours until you touched down at your destination. Today, Wi-Fi technologies allow us to stay connected even at 30,000 feet above the ground, so we can read the news, browse the web (to beat the long-haul boredom) and send that last-minute planning email before the family reunion. This holiday season, there will be more connected flyers than ever before.

Personally, I never found flying all that relaxing in the first place, so having some Wi-Fi to pass the time and get some work done sounds great. I'd rather spend my disconnected time on the ground and with friends and family than on a plane. Cheers, Google.

Google takes Over ITA

Posted by gurur@j on Saturday, August 28, 2010 , under | comments (0)

Billiondollar companies have a penchant for acquiring technology the easy way,and Google's   take over of ITA software,   a leading flight information company, for $700 million,is  a classic example.
The industry is certainly buzzing with questions. What exactly does Google intend to do with a $700 million flight information company?

Google has not said how they intend to use  ITA,except by commenting that they'd honour all of ITA'S previous  commitments;most notably service agreements with microsoft's Bing,a part from the more obivious Kayak and Orbitz.

Battle For  Social Networking For Highest Authority/Power:Google vs.facebook

Just when people had started using Face-book and Google as  the two internet giants,it appears that Google will attempt to pull the ground from under Facebook's feet,by launching a new social networking services of its own called "Google Me" and simuntaneously rope in the famed services of Zynga, the social gaming developer of facebook fame. This news comes after TechCrunch's reports that Google has pumped in between $100m to $200m into Zynga.

Zynga has been doing rounds on Facebook, growing in stature and popularity with such hot games like Farm ville and Mafia Wars.Everybody is amazed by the company's potential, with the current estimates pegging Zynga's 2011 revenue at $1 billion.Google's internet in Zynga seems obvious, for Google Games with Zynga's experties will give them a hold on the social gaming sphere, and open up another battel front with the social net-working behemoth-Face-book.

Mean while, conjecture has it  that the new Google Me services will be an enchanced, and more integrated version of the current Google Pro-files.To support this, there's also news that Google Buzz's  lead Developer ,Rick Klau,is now working on Google Profiles.

A move like this, really emphasizes how much Google wants to domainate the social networking space, and they certainly do have potential, if Gmail, Docs ,Maps, calender,Orkut and even search are properly integrated .Although, out playing Facebook in the own backyard would be easier said than done .Not to forget the bungled launch of Google Buzz!

Google Tv Meets Web

Google Tv  Meets Web

Google has finally made its foray from the small screen to the big screen

Google TV is an effort to finally bring the Web to the Tv set,It' certainely not a new idea, but till now web sites have never been designed with TV sets in mind, limiting the usefulness of such devices.

What Google wants to bring to the TV experience,is the power and flexibility of the web,but in a form factor that can really be enjoyed on TV screens. The aim is to make watching your TV a socialexperience, just like web videos.Nowdays we want to watch stuff which has a little more personal relevance, stuff that our friends like and post.

Google TV also brings the power of search to your TV set. With Google TV you can simply search for what you are looking for in the embedded browser, instead fo changing channels.

Google TV will be based on the open-source Android OS with the Google Chrome browser.Google will soon release a TV SDK for developing Android application designed for TV sets, and the Android Market shall hsot such application.Google is encouraging developers to start considering TVs as possible web interfaces for website as well.

Google is also embracing Adobe Flash in their Chrome browser for TVs and set tops, which will feature Adobe Flash player 10.1 with support for hardware accelerated Playback of video content on the web.

To bring this to realisation,Google ahs tied up with sony, which will be making TV sets and Blu-Ray players which include support for Google TV;and Logitech, which will release set-Top boxes for use with current TVs.

Television needed more than just a push up in the resolution of the content, but also the quality and relevance.Google TV Seems to be effort which gives it just the right Push.

Google Developing Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Google Developing Artificial Intelligence (AI)
"The worlds most dominant   online company, with the largest conglomeration of computing power the world has ever seen,      is trying to build  artificial intelligence, and according to [Google CEO] Page it isn’t        that   far away either."

Co-founder Larry Page announced that Google is in the development stages of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and he claims the realization may not be far off.Sci-Fi movies immediately come to mind and initial reactions may be curiosity-piqued-with-incredulity. However, some are very alarmed by this announcement calling into question the wisdom of such a move, in light of the moral and ethical questions and implications this advancement raises.

Yep, you read that right, Google is trying to build real AI. The worlds most dominant online company, with the largest conglomeration of computing power the world has ever seen, is trying to build artificial intelligence, and according to Page it isn’t that far away either. ... true artificial intelligence not only has serious ethical and moral implications, self aware intelligence may also not be controllable, after all it thinks for itself and makes decisions based on that reasoning, as we all do. Google plans experimental 1 Gbps Isp trials

Google plans experimental 1 Gbps Isp trials

One thing which can really make you  survive in the tech world is innovation.Google is the company which gave us a revolutionary search engine;a 1GB e-mail storage, when 100 MB was considered enough. They've given us products such as the free Google Maps with street view which would've been considered impossible few years ago. They don't plan on stopping there,so they've decided to bring high speed fiber networks powered internet services to our homes.
Fiber optics communication has over never been exploited to the fullest and it's failed in reaching out to the masses.Google plans to charge this by testing high-speed broadband networks in a small number of trail locations is the method of transferring data from one place to another by sending pulses revolutionized internet speeds forever by introducing connection speed of a mind boggling 1Gb/sec for as many as 500,000 people. That makes it about 20 times faster that the highest internet speed provided by AT&T or Verizon in USA or about a 1000 times faster that the average speed we see here.

Google says that they are doing this for a couple of reasons-to encourage the development had been some what restricted,to explore new ways of deploying fiber networks and provide an "open access"network which gives the user a choice to have multiple service providers. If this experiment becomes a success,Google can redefine what internet speed is all about.
Al through, this looks quite promising, this can take up some time to come in to practice.Laying an infrastructure for fiber optics is a cumbersome and time  consuming process.

Also, the estimated cost of the project has been put between $500 million and $1 billion.Google's lack of experience in this field may also prove to be a hindrance. This will not be a smooth ride for Google and as one industry expert says"If it was easy, everyone would have done it"

So like we asked earlier, where do we sign up?The trails are taking place in the US  now and there's no saying when we get to sample Google's IPS project. But when it does,it will surely be very dig.Imagine downloading 200 of your favourate songs downloaded in about 8seconds.the prospects have to wait and see how this shapes up.Till then,we just have to hang in there with our 600kbps and 1Mbps lines.
