Battle For Social Networking For Highest Authority/Power:Google vs.facebook
Just when people had started using Face-book and Google as the two internet giants,it appears that Google will attempt to pull the ground from under Facebook's feet,by launching a new social networking services of its own called "Google Me" and simuntaneously rope in the famed services of Zynga, the social gaming developer of facebook fame. This news comes after TechCrunch's reports that Google has pumped in between $100m to $200m into Zynga.
Zynga has been doing rounds on Facebook, growing in stature and popularity with such hot games like Farm ville and Mafia Wars.Everybody is amazed by the company's potential, with the current estimates pegging Zynga's 2011 revenue at $1 billion.Google's internet in Zynga seems obvious, for Google Games with Zynga's experties will give them a hold on the social gaming sphere, and open up another battel front with the social net-working behemoth-Face-book.
Mean while, conjecture has it that the new Google Me services will be an enchanced, and more integrated version of the current Google Pro-files.To support this, there's also news that Google Buzz's lead Developer ,Rick Klau,is now working on Google Profiles.
A move like this, really emphasizes how much Google wants to domainate the social networking space, and they certainly do have potential, if Gmail, Docs ,Maps, calender,Orkut and even search are properly integrated .Although, out playing Facebook in the own backyard would be easier said than done .Not to forget the bungled launch of Google Buzz!

Best Social Media Tips
Best Social Media Tips
Plunging into social media for the first time can be a bit daunting for individuals or businesses. There is a learning curve when it comes to becoming more social online, and it can take a while to learn what works and what doesn’t. Here are a few of the best Do’s and Don’ts that can save you time and help grow your social media authority more quickly.
1. Start small
You’ll want to start small and try a couple services out at a time. Oftentimes newbies sign up for every social network under the sun and try to grow each of them. Guess how long they last? Building profiles for multiple social sites is hard work, so it’s best to start by only tackling a couple at first.
Once you find the right ones for you or your brand, then start to narrow your focus on those. Eventually you may want to scale your social media strategy to include more services, but you have to crawl before you can walk.
Start small, and then grow to other social networks as your confidence grows. Success breeds success.
2. Get a widget
Put a widget up on your site for your social networks. The best place to find followers is your own blog or site. Also, it’s much easier to get your readers and friends to vote or retweet your content than strangers. Adding a widget next to your content can help.
Facebook has a widget generator you can use, and the Tweetmeme badge is easy to add to your site as well.
3. Frequently test your buttons and widgets
Start testing which social media profiles have the most impact, then drop the rest. For example, if your site does really well with Facebook shares but hardly ever gets voted on Digg, then drop the Digg vote button.
Oftentimes you’ll see sites littered with tons of widgets and buttons. Having a gazillion widgets at the end of each article only creates noise and annoys the reader. Figure out which buttons are getting clicked, and drop the buttons that don’t convert. Ideally you’ll only have two or three widgets on each page.
You can tell which buttons are effective by using Google Analytics and goals to see who’s clicking what. You can also use A/B to see which types of buttons are getting more clicks.
4. Don’t annoy your followers
Sounds like common sense, right? Unfortunately, lots of companies that are just starting out with social media think the best way to “promote” their brand is to publish coupons, offers, news, and anything else related to their business.
Rule of thumb: if it’s something you personally wouldn’t like to receive, avoid it.
Your social media goal is to be helpful first. People follow and respect brands that are helpful, not self-promoting shills. Give first, then ask.
Try posting useful links to industry articles, answer questions, and engage. The followers, engagement, and ultimately sales will come if you’re helpful first.
5. Don’t fret about follower counts
Don’t believe all the spammy ebooks out there that sell you the notion that you can attract thousands of followers in a matter of days. Sure, you could do that and it’s not hard. But the types of followers who are going to be following you are mostly bots. Or they’re just following you in hopes that you’ll follow them back. Ultimately, they aren’t followers who would engage with you.
You want social media followers that are going to listen and interact with you, and 10 of those followers is worth more than a thousand bots.
It takes a while to organically build up a great social profile. Focus on building great content and being helpful, and the followers will come.
6. See what the pros are doing
Everyone has a different strategy when it comes to social media, and sometimes it’s best to take a look at people who are real social media experts. Lee Odden is a good example of someone using Twitter and Facebook to help people, which in turn grows his social media influence.
There are plenty of fantastic examples of people who truly understand how to interact and build powerful social media profiles the right way. Check out sites like WeFollow to find influential Twitter users within your niche.
7. Don’t overlook niche social media site
When people think of social media, they typically think of Twitter or Facebook. But there are literally hundreds (maybe thousands?) of social media networks and sites that you can use to help promote your brand. Jut because a network isn’t huge doesn’t mean it’s not going to impact your social media strategy. Oftentimes targeted niche social sites can bring more targeted traffic to your site than larger sites.
If you’re smart, you can use smaller social networks to help promote your site on other bigger social networks. For example, I’ve written posts on web development that have made it to the front page of Dzone, a social media site for web development. Once the article made it to the front page of Dzone, the attention brought a lot of saves on Delicious, and subsequently made it to the Delicious front page. The delicious front page brought even more traffic, and those Delicious users voted the story up to the Digg front page. So, by simply submitting my site on a smaller niche news site with a great headline, I managed to make it to the coveted homepages of both Digg and Delicious.
Niche social news sites can be very powerful, and oftentimes much easier to become influential in than the larger sites. Here’s a list of social news sites organized by category.
8. Find people within your niche to follow on Twitter
The ideal follower on Twitter is one that has similar interests within your niche. You can find like-minded people to follow on Twitter through these directories and odds are many will follow you back.
Once you’ve started following these people, start interacting with them. Participate in discussions, and retweet things they say that would be helpful to your community.
Not only will this method help build your follower counts, it also gives you more influence within your niche. You’ll find great friends that will help you promote your content and site too. Always remember to give first and ask later.
9.Stay Humble
Social media beginners often try to quickly establish themselves as “experts” within their field, but they have nothing to back it up. (For example, search for “social media experts” on Twitter. You’ll find many with only a handful of followers. Shouldn’t an “expert” have more?)
As with anything in life, nobody likes a know-it-all. Be humble. Ask questions. Teach, but don’t preach. Let others do the hyping for you. And they will if you’re helpful and humble.

For the most multitasking seems to work transparently and very quickly without you even noticing it. For example you are now able to upload photos to Flickr but without having to keep the Flickr app open. In this case, the Flickr application will keep uploading those photos while you go read your email or check the weather.

What can’t apps do while in the background?
Grab new updates: those of you who were hoping that your Twitter, IM, or IRC client would pull down updates while hanging out in the background will be disappointed. Unless those apps make use of push notifications to alert you of new messages (as the AIM app does), apps won’t be able to check for updates on their own unless they’re in the foreground.
Multitasking and performance
There has been some cancers that multitasking might slow down the iPhone. As you will be see from the video on top of this post, I had about 12 apps open including video and audio, and didn’t notice any speed issues.
iOS 4 Compatibility
iOS 4 will work with iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. Support for the second and third-generation iPod touch will be available this summer, iPad support will be available in the fall.
How do I close any of the open applications?
To see all your open applications double-tap on the home button to pull
up a pane that shows which apps are open in either a live or suspended
state. To close any of the apps hold your finger on any of the ions to
see the minus signs. See the picture below.
Finally Multi tasking allows you run multiple applications at the same time. This means for example you can continue listening to music on iPod while browsing the web or sending an email. Or, you can now receive VoIP calls and have conversations while using another app.
For the most multitasking seems to work transparently and very quickly without you even noticing it. For example you are now able to upload photos to Flickr but without having to keep the Flickr app open. In this case, the Flickr application will keep uploading those photos while you go read your email or check the weather.

- The table_index is used to define which reduce function to use for the table and the part_index is for deciding how to generate the initial starting point for the rainbow table.
- The settings recommended by the creators for the software for a 99.9% probability of cracking hashes are (for md5): rtgen md5 loweralpha-numeric 1 7 0 3800 33554432 0 Instead of md5,you could have used any other algorithm here.Rainbowcrack can be extended using dlls to support hash algorithm. Here we are generating a rainbow table with the following specefications.
| hash_algorithm | md5 |
|---|---|
| charset | loweralpha-numeric=[abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789] |
| plaintext_len_min | 1 |
| plaintext_len_max | 7 |
| chain_len | 3800 |
| chain_num | 33554432 |
- This command has to run 6times for each table index, from 0 to 5,and each time it will take around 2hrs on a Core i5 system! Each resulting file will be around 512MB,making the whole table collection around 3GB in size.
- As you increase the number of characters in the character set and the length, the size will go up drastically.
- This will result is file named "md5_loweralpha-numeric#1-7_0_03800x33554432_o.rt" to "md5_loweralpha-numeric#1-7_0_3800x33554432_5.rt" The resulting rainbow table will not be stored, and hence will not be easy to search in.So the next step is to sort the table using the rsort command. This command simply takes the filename of the unsorted tables as a paramater.
- This takes under a minute to execute. Since rainbow table are large, you can also use rt2rtc command to compress the table into".rtc" files which can be used with the cracking applicaions without needing to be decompressed. Now that we have out rainbow tables, what do we do next?Use them of course! The following images show how easy it is to do with the graphical Rinbowcrack GUI.
The Windows registry
The Windows registry
The Windows registry
For all the people using Windows,it is very helpful to learn about one of the most important aspects of any windows system, the windows Registry. The registry in windows is a central database of all configuration settings for most of the application installed on your computer. It is used extensively by Windows for storing all its setting and by most Windows application. The Windows registry allow one to configure many settings for windows and other application which are otherwise not accessibly by any interface that the application provides.
By Understanding a few things about the windows registry you can go for long way towards hacking your system into what you want it to be.Editing the windows registry is one of the most Powerful ways of manipulating yous ystem settings, which is something that makes it equally dangerous.
So before you set out to do anything with the registry, please back up your system registry. If you are using the system Restore/System protection feature in windows create a recovery Point.Even so,there are many tools out there which will help you accomplis some advanced registry manipulations without needing to edit it manually.
To edit the Windows registry, the simplest tool to use--One which is free and works reasonably well-is the registry editor which comes bundled with Windows:regedit. It can be launched using the RUN dialog(Windows Button +R)by entering the command regedit and hitting[enter]
The Windows regedit in any recent Os will display the following 5 root key entries:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTHKEY_CURRENT_USERHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEHKEY_USERSHKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG
All this settings are not stored in a single file, but are instead spread across multiple files in logicalgroups called "hives".The combination of data from these "hives"makes up the windows registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Abbreviated as HKML.According to its description in Microsoft TechNet:TheHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE sub tree contains information about the local computer system, including hardware and operating system data, such as bus type, system memory, device drivers, and start up control parameters. The software sub key in this key contains the bulk of the system-Wide settings for application installed in windows. The setting in this section are usually arranged as company/Product/version as those are Microsoft's guidelines.setting for Microsoft's own applications will thus be found in HKLM/software/Microsoft own applications will thus be found in HKLM/software/Microsoft,with settings for windows itself under Windows.
HKEY_USERS
This key contains user configuration Keys for each user.It has one subkey for each user is named after the user's security ID.For explanation of what is combined in the subkeys read on for HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Abbreviated as HKCU.According to its description in Microsoft Tech Net:The HKEY_CURRENT_USER Sub tree contains the user profile for the user who is currently logged on to the computer. The user profile includes environment variables, personal program groups, desktop settings, network connections, Printers, and application preferences. The data in the user profile is similar to the data stored in the Win.ini file in Windows3.x.
The HKEY_CURRENT USER Sub tree does not contain any data .It just stores a pointer to the content of the HKEY_USER\security ID(SID)of current user sub key .Therefore, the content of that sub key also appear in HKEY_CURRENT_USER,and it can be viewed and changed in either location. This sub tree provides easier access to the data.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
Abbreviated as HKCR,this part of the registry is for storing file associations and information about application registered for handling different data types. These settings can be overridden by the current user's settings for the same stored in HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Classes.
HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG
It merely links to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Currentcontrolset\Hardware Profiles\Current and contains information generated at run time.©®
